The Pittsfield Fire Department responded to Two fires within a span of eight hours in Pittsfield on Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning. The first fire occurred shortly before 4:30 pm at 176 Holmes Road, where an exterior pool shed was on fire.

According to the media report, three engines and two other vehicles were dispatched to 167 Holmes Road where an exterior pool shed was on fire and threatening the main house on the property. Upon arrival, crews found a 1 1/2 story masonry and wood-framed structure being exposed to high heat and flames coming from the pool shed on an exterior corner of the structure. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in around 10 minutes. Firefighters entered the home and secured the electrical panel and checked the home for any extension in the interior of the structure. There was not. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no injuries, however, the shed housing, pool pump, and supplies were totally destroyed and there was some minor damage to the exterior of the residence.

The second fire occurred just after 12:15 am Saturday, at 63 Scammell Avenue, where a single resident had to be evacuated.

Upon arrival, there was heavy fire showing outside of the building and lapping up into an attic window. Firefighters alerted the occupant that her house was on fire and she quickly exited the home. According to the media report, there was a live and energized electric service wire coming from the street down in the front yard that had already burned through and broke off the house above the meter socket. The wire was arcing on the ground.

There were no injuries as a result of this fire either, but there was severe fire damage to a front corner of the first floor, eaves, and the attic area of the home. There was also significant smoke and water damage throughout the residence.
