Parking Lot Will Be Open for Wednesday’s Fireworks at Wahconah Park

I got some new details on Wednesday's fireworks show that were not in the original press release, so let me clear a few things up.

I spoke with Catherine Van Bramer at the mayor's office, and there is an important update on where you can actually watch the show. Wahconah Park itself is closed right now. It is a construction zone as the demolition work slowly continues, so there is no access to the field this year. If you were planning on setting up a blanket on the grass like in years past following the Suns game, that is not happening.

The good news is the parking lot will be open for viewing. So you still have a solid spot to watch from, just not the field you might be used to. Plan accordingly and get there with some time to spare, since a lot of people are going to be working with a smaller viewing area than normal.

As a reminder, the fireworks are happening Wednesday, July 8, at 9:15pm near Wahconah Park. This got pushed back from the actual Fourth of July after the city failed to secure a vendor.

Also worth mentioning, there is one more additional sponsor behind this year's show. Berkshire Property Managers joins Haddad and Pittsfield Coop who stepped up to help make it happen, so a thank you to them for supporting something the whole city gets to enjoy.

According to Van Bramer, the vendor cost to produce the fireworks show is about $22,000 plus police, fire and some additional public works costs. The show should last about 20 minutes.

Wednesday looks to be a great evening - the current forecast is sunny and 80. Start the afternoon with a free show at Onota Lake with Whiskey City at 6pm - then head to the fireworks.
