May is not done playing games with us. We have had rain, we have had clouds, and we have had temperatures that feel more like early April than late spring. But buckle up, summer is coming in hot, and fast. Our electric bills will be soon be soaring soon due to constantly running air conditioners

According to the forecast, we are looking at temperatures touching 90 degrees in the Berkshires by next Tuesday! To put that in perspective, it is currently 55 and cloudy here in Pittsfield today. That is a nearly 35-degree swing in less than a week. Welcome to New England weather.

Before we get there, the forecast is calling for a wet stretch to close out this week. Expect rain chances to linger through Thursday, with things starting to dry out and warm up heading into the weekend. Saturday looks like it could hit the mid-70s, Sunday pushes into the low 80s, and then Tuesday is where things get serious.

A high near 90 in mid-May is not exactly unheard of in the Berkshires, but it is not common either. If that comes true, it would be one of the warmest days this region has seen this early in the season in recent years.

As for the broader summer outlook, long-range forecasts are pointing toward a warmer-than-average summer across the Northeast. That means more stretches like this one,  hotter highs, potentially less relief overnight, and the kind of heat that makes you appreciate every breeze off the lakes!
