Woman Arrested After Ripping Fence Off Its Posts At Big Y
I was sitting in my car scrolling through my phone for a moment yesterday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Big Y after picking up a few groceries when I heard a loud crash and dragging noise off to my right.
It took me a few seconds to figure out exactly what was going on - but after doing a 360 degree scan of my surroundings - I spotted a blue Ford pick up truck that had the beginning section of approximately 75 feet of black chain link fence lodged and hooked under its front end - with the rest of the fencing already yanked off its posts.
After a brief pause, the woman insisted on continuing to operate the truck - at this point I walked up to her passenger's side window and hollered at her to stop and to put the truck in park at the same time trying to alert her to the fact that she had just torn through fencing and was dragging a massive section in real time.
I took one look at her face and she appeared to be highly intoxicated and had slurred speech. After multiple attempts of hollering and yelling - she would not put the truck in park and insisted on "finding a parking space". At one point, a passerby suggested she may have been experiencing hypoglycemia. I cannot confirm what her issue was.
For a moment, I considered stepping on the truck's side step and reaching in the cabin and putting the truck in park myself, but I feared that she would get spooked about me invading her space and take off. While this is happening, another passerby witnessed what was happening and HE attempted to convince the woman to put the truck in park and was also unsuccessful. So - HE stuck is hand through the open driver's side window, grabbed the shifter, put it in park, killed the engine, and grabbed the keys. The man told me a strong odor of alcohol was present inside the truck's cabin.
Crisis averted.
At one point a woman who worked for Big Y had walked up to the front of the truck to see what was going on - I immediately yelled for her to get out of the way of the truck in case the woman accidently slammed on the gas - again, she was not in good shape.
Big Y Store Director Jeremy Smith said that the blue pickup took a wide turn and the fence between the business and Center Street got stuck to its plow frame. The driver kept going, peeling off portions of fence that wrapped underneath the vehicle. -theberkshireeagle.com
The police were there within a few minutes and arrested the woman, no further information was provided in regards to her name, city of residence, or what she was charged with.
Never a dull moment! Thanks for reading.
