Woman Involved in Chase that Injured Officers Identified
A Florida woman involved in a police chase in started in Dalton and ended in Pittsfield is being held awaiting extradition to her home state.
Meghan Martin fled from Dalton Police Wednesday, June 30 after a vehicle she was a passenger was pulled over. According to Dalton Police Chief Deanna Strout, Martin has a warrant out for her arrest in Florida for allegedly stealing over $9,000 from an elderly woman, illegally using her debit card. Strout says Dalton Officers have been watching Martin for months.
When Sgt. Bustin Buzzella and Officer Tyler Miller pulled over the vehicle Martin was traveling on Main St in Dalton this past Wednesday, she jumped into the driver's seat and took off. For a short period of time, one of the officers was dragged by the fleeing vehicle before he could get free. Strout said both officers suffered minor injuries.
Martin drove into Pittsfield via East St where the car she was driving hit Sgt. Buzzella’s cruiser causing significant damage then ditched the car in the Brattle Brook area. She fled on foot and with the assistance of Pittsfield and Massachusetts State Police officers, Martin was eventually apprehended on MacIntosh Dr.
Martin is being held pending extradition to Pinellas County, Florida where her warrant stems from.
