Heatwave Cooling Centers Set in Pittsfield
This is no secret to anybody -- it is hot outside and only getting hotter.
With the mini heatwave that has effect the Berkshires and much of the Northeast, Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer has announced a pair of cooling centers for folks looking to get out of the heat.
A heat advisory is in effect through Wednesday at 8 p.m. and the two locations set up for cooling are the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center, 330 North Street, and the Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Avenue.
According to Tyer, the Senior Center will be open Tuesday and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. while the Berkshire Athenaeum will operate until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
In addition, rides are being offered for free to and from both cooling center locations -- which are also handicap accessible. You can call 499-9346 for more information and to get a ride.
