A threat made by an individual who said that someone would bring a gun to Berkshire Community College on Monday morning was deemed by authorities to not be credible.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that according to BCC spokeswoman Christina Wynn, the college received a call at approximately 9:40 a.m. claiming that an individual was planning to bring a gun to the college's main campus on West Street. The call came after two individuals were involved in a dispute. One of the two called the college and said the other was bringing a gun to the school.

Students and staff were made aware of the situation by email and text alerts saying that anyone who entered the college would be asked for identification. According to Wynn, Law enforcement authorities determined the threat was not credible after speaking with the person who had threatened to bring the gun to BCC. The incident was resolved around 1 p.m.

According to State Police spokesman David Procopio, State Police troopers from the Cheshire barracks were dispatched to BCC's West Street campus after the college received a third-party report that a woman might try to enter the campus with a firearm.

The student who made the threat was located by troopers who determined that she was not a threat and did not possess firearms. A follow-up investigation into the report made to BCC is being conducted by troopers assigned to the Berkshire County State Police Detective Unit.
