Here's What's Open (and Closed) in Berkshire County this week

Big Y in Pittsfield yesterday afternoon was a complete zoo - the busiest I had ever seen it. The self checkouts, the regular queue - everything - every lane was open, to boot - a rarity!

Christmas falls on Thursday this year, and if you're scrambling to figure out when you can grab last-minute ingredients for your holiday meal, here's what you need to know about Berkshire County grocery store hours

Nearly every major grocery store will be CLOSED on Christmas Day (Dec 25). Your window to shop is Christmas Eve – but with reduced hours.

CHRISTMAS EVE (Wednesday, Dec 24) - REDUCED HOURS:

Big Y locations in Pittsfield, Lee, and Great Barrnigton will be open 7am to 6pm – closing three hours earlier than usual. Stop by in the morning if you can, because afternoon crowds will be intense.

Stop & Shop is following the same schedule: 7am to 6pm on Christmas Eve, then locked doors on Christmas Day.

Aldi (Pittsfield location) is closing even earlier – 8am to 4pm on Christmas Eve. If you're relying on Aldi for holiday essentials, don't wait until the afternoon.

Guido's Fresh Marketplace (Pittsfield and Great Barrington) will be open 8am to 5pm on Christmas Eve – one of the earlier closures in the county, so plan accordingly.

Market 32 stores in Pittsfield, Lenox, and Great Barrington are expected to have reduced Christmas Eve hours and will close at 6 p.m.

CHRISTMAS DAY (Thursday, Dec 25) - EVERYTHING CLOSED:

Every grocery store listed above will be closed on Christmas Day to give employees time with their families. No exceptions. If you forget the butter, you're out of luck.

FRIDAY, DEC 26 - BACK TO NORMAL:

All stores reopen Thursday with regular hours. Expect post-holiday crowds and plenty of people returning unwanted gift baskets.
