Berkshires Dodges Nor’easter Bullet, But Brace for the Deep Freeze

While much of New England is bracing for a potentially massive nor'easter this weekend, Western Massachusetts looks like it's going to catch a break on the snow – but not the cold.

The latest forecasts show the nor'easter tracking along the coast, which means communities from Boston to Cape Cod could see significant snowfall and strong winds. But here in the Berkshires? We're positioned just far enough inland that we'll likely miss the worst of it.

That doesn't mean we're getting off easy, though.

Temperatures are expected to plummet over the next several days, with overnight lows dropping into the single digits and even below zero in some areas. Wind chills could make it feel even colder – we're talking dangerous cold that can cause frostbite in minutes.

If you're heading out, bundle up in layers. Make sure your car's winter emergency kit is stocked, and give yourself extra time for your morning commute as black ice will be a serious concern on roads and sidewalks.

Check on elderly neighbors and make sure pets aren't left outside. This is the kind of cold where exposed skin becomes a real problem quickly.

The good news? We've already dealt with plenty of snow this month, so dodging another major storm means our road crews can focus on keeping what we have under control rather than dealing with fresh accumulation.

Keep those thermostats up, those winter coats handy, and those snow shovels ready – just in case Mother Nature changes her mind. And remember: if you've got snow-covered license plates from our last storm, clear them off before you drive. It's the law, and it could save you up to a hundred-dollar fine!
