Pittsfield Man Found Guilty in Sexual Assault Case
After six-hours of deliberation, the jury found Christopher Root guilty of sexual assault Friday morning.
According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office, the 43-year-old Root was found guilty on two counts of rape and abuse of a child aggravated by an age difference and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person who has attained 14.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred in Pittsfield between August 1, 2014 and December 9, 2014. The victim is a girl who is now 19 years of age.
Judge John Agostini ordered that he be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without the right to bail pending sentencing, which will occur Friday, March 30th at 2 p.m.
