The Board of Health in Adams Will Debate A More Widespread Masking Policy
As Berkshire County navigates the tricky waters of the Delta Variant of the coronavirus, the discussion continues surrounding valid steps to take to help keep the deadly variant at bay. We’ve already seen mask mandates at public schools in the Berkshires and around the state, but what else can we do to stem the tide?
In an announcement sent to the Berkshire News Network and other media today, Adams Board of Health Chairman David Rhodes said that the board's consensus continues to be that “we must stem coronavirus transmission, with the 3 best ways being vaccination, masking, & social distancing. Only the latter 2 are currently within the Board of Health’s jurisdiction.”
A meeting has been scheduled to consider options.

To minimize the spread of coronavirus, specifically the Delta variant, the Adams Board of Health will hold a public meeting at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 9th in the Mahogany Room at Adams Town Hall to consider issuing a town-wide directive for masking in all publicly accessible indoor places & outdoor venues where social distancing is not possible. Moreover, we will consider extending the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education mandate on universal masking in public schools to private schools in Adams, which may have students under age 12 who are ineligible for vaccination.
In today’s announcement Rhodes says said that as of September 2nd, with a reporting period from 8/15/21 through 8/28/21, the 14-day Average Daily Incidence Rate for the Town of Adams was 39.9 per 100,000 residents.
The Board of Health is welcoming the public to join the meeting to offer insights, concerns, and feedback as they debate taking these important steps for the community's public health and safety.
