Massachusetts Sees Third Straight Day of Decreasing COVID Numbers

Reports from the Massachusetts State Department of Public Health yesterday indicate that the state has seen three days in a row of decline in COVID-19 numbers.

This is the third consecutive day that the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the number of new deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus have both decreased.

The reports show that there are 3,477 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. In total, the state has had 479,402 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, including an estimated 92,305 active ones.

DPH reports also show that 45 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 13,889.

The department also announced Monday that 78,650 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has given out 13,046,574 total molecular tests for the virus. The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped slightly Monday to 4.82%.

In a press conference yesterday, Gov. Baker announced that Phase 2 of the vaccine distribution will begin for residents 75 years and older (1st priority group) on February 1. Residents in that age group can make an appointment beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan 27. Residents 65 and older will be eligible after the vaccination of 75+ group is complete.
