How George Haddad Saved Pittsfield’s Fireworks – And What’s Next for GMC

George Haddad, owner of the Haddad dealerships, was our special guest during the nine o'clock hour of Tuesday morning's radio show. He was on-air to promote tomorrow's fireworks show at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, plus talk briefly about the dealerships.

The city was unable to secure a fireworks vendor this year because of overwhelming demand due to the nation's widespread 250th birthday celebrations. Haddad is friends with Rob McGee, owner of the McGee family dealerships (Volkswagen, Audi, BMW), and he apparently knew of a guy that was available on July 8th thanks to a cancellation of a previously scheduled show in Maine.

The fireworks were worth about $30,000 but the guy said he'd cut George a deal for $22,000. Haddad, the Pittsfield Coop Bank, Berkshire Property Managers, and the city, all pitched in undisclosed amounts to foot the bill. The approximately 20 minute show starts tomorrow night at 9:15.

Haddad GMC Will Eventually Move To Pittsfield

While I had Haddad in studio, I asked him about his plan for the old McGee property on Merrill Road that he purchased in January, to which he replied, "No plan yet".

Haddad did say though, however, that the GMC dealership that currently sits in Adams will be relocated to Pittsfield eventually.

"I am required to move it (Haddad GMC) to Pittsfield at some point, that is part of my agreement, GMC, they want to be centrally located with all of the other dealerships. When I bought the store in Great Barrington and when I bought the one in Adams, they said we'll allow you to consolidate them into one store, but we want it to be in Pittsfield or you won't get the franchise. So, I had to make that agreement - or at least close to Pittsfield. Hopefully I can pull off what I want to pull off and get GMC to Pittsfield, I also need to get Subaru into a bigger building". -George Haddad
