Jain Americas Takes Over Dan Fox Drive Building, Brings Jobs to Pittsfield
Mayor Peter Marchetti was on-air with us this morning to comment on a post on the job site Indeed about the sub chain "Jersey Mikes" coming to Pittsfield when he mentioned that a major manufacturing company is setting up shop in Pittsfield, and it could mean big things for local jobs.
Jain Americas Inc., a company with operations in Chicopee and a parent company headquartered in India, has taken over the former Conte archive building on Dan Fox Drive. The company is pumping $8 million into the facility and is currently in the middle of significant renovations to prepare it for full-scale production.
Jain Americas produces cellular PVC siding and trim under the NuCedar and Ex-Cel brand names. Their products are used in construction and building applications across the country, competing in a market where durability and low maintenance are major selling points over traditional wood siding. -plasticsnews.com
Mayor Peter Marchetti says the company is already hiring, with plans to bring on 35 workers right out of the gate. If growth goes according to plan, that number could climb to 100 jobs within three years. That kind of job creation would be a significant boost for Pittsfield's workforce.
The move breathes new life into a building that had been used for document storage, turning it into an active manufacturing operation. For a city that has worked hard to attract and retain good-paying jobs, landing an $8 million investment from a growing company is exactly the kind of economic news Pittsfield has been looking for.
The Jain Americas talk comes on the heels of unconfirmed buzz that Jersey Mike's may also be eyeing a Pittsfield location, though details on that remain unclear, although it has been said to pop up somewhere in the Stop & Shop plaza on Merrill Road.
