Toy For Tots Full Swing in The Berkshires
The holiday season is quickly approaching while many look forward to time with family and friends, but for some families it's not the easiest time of year. Of course everyone tends to stress about little things here and there during the holiday season, for some families financial burdens lead them to worry where their gifts will come from, wanting to give their kids the same joy on Christmas morning.
For 71 years the Marine Corp League's Toy for Tots organization have been helping the less fortunate and giving every child a reason to smile. While this is a nation wide initiative, in Berkshire County, thanks to the efforts of the Marine Corp League Pittsfield Detachment 137 and the Berkshire County Sheriff's Office, all gifts collected locally, will be distributed locally. Your donations will go right to the home of a child in need in The Berkshires. Last year the organization donated to over 2,000 homes.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at various location throughout Berkshire County (listed below). Toy donations are for boys and girls ages newborn to 14. Chris Keegan, from the Berkshire County Sheriff's Office who spearheads the project, says there is always a large need for toys for older pre-teens and teens, especially girls. Please be aware that toys that contain chocking hazards for infants and toddlers, replica toy guns and gift cards will not be accepted.
In addition to the toy drive, the Pittsfield Marine Corp League and Berkshire County Sheriff's Office are hosting a Pancake Breakfast to raise money to shop for local children. The event is Sunday, Nov. 25 at St. Joseph's Parish Center, 414 North Street in Pittsfield. It's just a five dollar donation and children under 12 eat for free.
