The Facebook rumors were true (I saw someone post an unofficial opening date) - the long awaited Starbucks on South Street, just north of the Lenox line, opened on Dec. 26. I just got off the phone with them to confirm.

This is Pittsfield's second stand alone location.

The new 2,700-square-foot café sits adjacent to Guido's Fresh Marketplace on Route 7/20 and includes a drive-thru, patio seating, and parking for 28 vehicles. The drive-thru lane can accommodate 21 cars with a bypass lane after the order point.

The location has been three years in the making. The Pittsfield City Council approved the project in November 2022 after initially sending it back to the drawing board over traffic safety concerns. The site, formerly a gas station, shares a busy stretch of Route 7 with Guido's, Pittsfield Rye Bakery, and the Hilton Garden Inn.

Despite concerns from councilors and local business owners about traffic flow, the project moved forward with a revised plan that slightly expanded the buffer between the coffeehouse and Guido's exit driveway and shifted the Starbucks entrance southward with separate left and right turning lanes. -berkshireeagle.com

The new store joins Pittsfield's existing Starbucks at 555 Hubbard Avenue in Berkshire Crossing, which features a drive-thru. Two additional Starbucks locations operate inside Barnes & Noble and Market 32, though those are licensed locations rather than company-operated stores.

Starbucks also has locations in Lee and Lanesborough (Target).

The opening comes as Starbucks implements its nationwide turnaround plan, which includes menu simplification, faster service times, and store redesigns to encourage customers to linger. The chain has been closing underperforming locations while strategically opening new ones in growing markets.

The new location can be reached at 413-239-2619.
