The National Weather Service is warning residents to expect 6 to 10 inches of snow, with some higher terrain in the Berkshires potentially seeing even more. Winds will gust up to 45 mph, creating dangerous blowing and drifting snow that could drop visibility to near zero at times. Snowfall rates may exceed one inch per hour late Sunday night into Monday morning.

Sunday night: Periods of snow. Low 23F. Winds NE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 100%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.

Monday: Snow during the morning will become lighter during the afternoon. High 24F. Winds NNW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 100%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. Higher wind gusts possible.

Monday night: Overcast. Low 13F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

The timing could not be worse for the work week. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes especially when kids are back to school this week, and the National Weather Service warns that travel could become very difficult to impossible during the storm's peak. Gusty winds could also bring down tree branches and power lines, raising the threat of outages across the county.

This is part of a powerful nor'easter that is also triggering blizzard warnings for eastern Massachusetts, where coastal communities could see up to two feet of snow and 60 mph wind gusts.

If you have any travel planned for Sunday afternoon or Monday, now is the time to reconsider. Stock up on essentials, charge your devices, and make sure you have a plan if the power goes out.
